Introduction to Poetry Materials

Syllabus for EN142 Introduction to Poetry. 

This course provides an introduction to the understanding, interpretation, and appreciation of a range of poetry across time and space.

Assignment sheets for long-form analysis and research projects, including comparative essays and a poet research project and presentation.

Excerpted qualitative and quantitative student evaluations of course.

Each week students closely analyze and discuss poetry in guided prompts. Student practice analyzing poetry and asking good question. This exercise includes writing a poem of their own based on a prompt related to the reading.

This metacognitive portfolio project encourages students to look back upon their journey with poetry. Students collect their poetry into a portfolio prefaced by a personal essay.

Full exam including multiple choice, short answer, short essay, and identification questions.
